Infidelity Therapy in Kansas City
What we focus on after an affair
Early in therapy, we prioritize the essentials that create safety and momentum for healing:
- Stabilizing the immediate crisis and reducing escalations that keep the hurt alive.
- Rebuilding safety and trust with clearer boundaries and predictable follow-through.
- Moving conversations from blame to change by mapping what each partner does that fuels the conflict loop.
How therapy works here
KCRI organizes couples work into a clear, skills-based sequence:
Step 1 is to identify your negative conflict cycle and the fears and insecurities feeding it.
Step 2 is to choose a path forward that reduces conflict and increases moments of connection.
Step 3 is to build new skills for talking about intense emotions—specifically including anger, betrayal, and hurt—often using a blend of couples and individual sessions so each partner can do personal “self-work.”
Most couples need roughly three months at a weekly or bi-weekly pace to see durable changes.
What sessions may look like
- Ground rules for safety, de-escalation, and respectful dialogue so both partners can be heard.
- Coaching on concrete communication guidelines and self-soothing so hard talks don’t spin out.
- Clarifying the kind of partner you want to be and setting personal goals you’ll work on together.
